Lincoln's Sparrows are secretive and have a wren like song. They can be found in wet mountainous meadows from May through July in the West and into Canada through Alaska. They move to lower elevations in the Winter and I found this one along the Truckee River at McCarran Ranch, which is a few miles east of the Reno/Sparks area. This guy was moving in and out of the Tules and I was very close to it. The area was under the shade of Cottonwoods and I used a shutter speed of 1/400s, with a wide opened f/5.6 and a low ISO250.
It’s nice when the opportunity presents itself to get so close to the birds and at times they seem to pose just long enough to capture them.
